Message From The Board Of Management

As you are aware a new Board of Management for Knockanean National School was formed in December 2007. The Board comprises the following members:
Rev. Canon Caimin O’ Carroll Chairman & Patron
Pat Mc Namara School Principal
Catherine Purcell  Parents’ Representative & Secretary
John Galvin Parents’ Representative
Anne-Marie CustyPatrons’ Nominee
John Corbett  Teachers’ Representative & Treasurer
Mairead Mannion         Community Representative
Tom LiddyCommunity Representative
A primary aim of this Board will be to work closely with the Department of Education & Science to procure a permanent school extension for Knockanean National School. While the Planning section of the Department has confirmed our requirement for such an extension the Board is concerned with the lack of real progress in relation to this matter. To this end we have written to the Department outlining the continuing pressure our school infra-structure is under from our ever increasing pupil numbers and requesting a meeting to discuss our future extension plans. Our letter was copied to all local TD representatives. We will keep parents informed of our progress.

Recent Events

The Board is pleased to confirm the recent installation of 3 Phase electricity in the school. This was necessary to cope with the increased electricity demand as a result of our ever increasing pupil numbers. We trust that it will solve any temporary loss of electricity which has been experienced in the past.

An independent safety audit of the school will take place within the current school year and be repeated yearly.

The Board is currently reviewing and updating our numerous school policies. Should you as a Parent wish to view any of these policies please feel free to ask the Principal.

We are extremely grateful to the Parents Group for their recent fundraising efforts through the publication and sale of our first school calendar. From these sales we have been in a position to purchase a few interactive white boards as teaching aids which greatly enhances the pupils learning experience.

Purpose of Board of Management

Remember the Board of Management aims to represent the best interests of the parents, teachers, pupils and wider community connected with our school. We value your views in this regard. Should you wish to raise an issue for discussion by us please feel free to talk to any board member. The Board is also very strongly represented on the Parents Group of the school. Activities of the Board are reported at each parents meeting and parent issues are a regular agenda item at Board meetings.
