Credit Union

St Francis Credit Union Limited operates a branch in Knockanean National School for those students between 2nd and 6th Class attending the school. The main aim of the school credit union is to encourage the students to adopt a regular savings habit and thereby sow the seeds of good financial management for the future.

How it works
The credit union operates as follows:
  • The school credit union is being run by the parents association in conjunction with the school and the credit union.
  • The branch opens in the school one morning a week for 30mins
, children have permission to leave class to go to credit union.
  • Students will be issued with the credit union account books in their own names.
  • Students can save any amount per week from €1 upwards. A receipt will be issued from the credit union and given to the child the following week.
  • Dividends will be paid on savings at the same rate as applies to all members.
  • Withdrawals from accounts must be done at Credit Union main office in Friars Walk, Ennis.
  • To open an account please call into Credit Union branch at Friar’s Walk, Ennis (near Temple Gate Hotel)

We hope this initiative will encourage young people to take responsibility for their own savings and to reap the benefits of saving with the credit union.
