 Parents Council

Objective
The Parents Council of Knockanean work closely with the principal, staff and the board of management to build a positive and active partnership between the home and school with a common goal of providing the best possible education for our children.
The parents council is affiliated to the National Parents Council whose website www.npc.ie contains a lot of useful information.

Monthly meetings are held, see dates below and ALL parents are welcome to attend and encouraged to provide inputs to parent council activities.  Contrary to popular belief, you won't be forced to take any duties you don't want to!  Often, we just want to hear your thoughts and ideas on a particular issue.

Update March 2009

Dear Parents, Just a brief update on recent/upcoming activities of the Parents group.

Recent activities:

Halloween Party: Net Profit  € 886.00

White Board: We have finally secured the third Interactive whiteboard funded by the parents group - this brings to 6 in total in the school, which facilitate enhanced learning in the classroom.

School Calendar 2009We had another successful year with the Calendars (still a few available from Madge!).

Profits from our activities were distributed amongst:

        2) Hope Foundation - our donation will be passed on to the Hope Foundation by to Iarlaith McNamara who is currently volunteering in Bangladesh and soon in India.

        3) Clare Animal Welfare who will be sending a representative to the school soon to talk to pupils about the importance of taking care of our animals. www.clareanimalwelfare.com

Upcoming activities:

**We have a Spring Clean organised for the 28th of March, followed by Communion reception on Saturday 16 May and annual Fun Day on June 14.

  Thank You Parents!

We would like to thank all those parents who have helped out at our events during the year.  Those who volunteered their assistance at the Halloween Party, Family Fun Day, Confirmation or Communion Receptions as well as those who assisted in gathering information and photos for the school calendar and website.  Your help, no matter how big or small, makes our job a little easier and it also makes Knockanean School a great place for your kids to learn and play.  Keep up the good work!

Purchase of 2 x Interactive whiteboards - March
Interactive whiteboards create a range of e-learning opportunities for both students and teacher. Studies have found them to be highly motivating and learner-centred when integrated innovatively. Typically, interactive whiteboards are used in classroom environments and the technology allows you to write or draw on the surface, print off the image, save it to computer.
A total of 6 interactive whiteboards are now in use in the school.

Jack & Jill Donation to charity & 5th/6th year talk - Feb 25 2008
Maggie Begley, a parent and nurse with Jack & Jill charity, gave a talk to 5th/6th class.  The school raised funds from the recent school calendar and donated Euro 500 to this very worthy cause.  Maggie explained the great work that the Jack & Jill charity does, and how our donation can help.
