Interview with Pat Short, comedian
by Sarah Byrt

SARAH: what inspired you to be a comedian?
PAT: I kind of fell into the role. I was working with John Kenny and it just kind of happened. I never thought about being a comedian.
SARAH: Do you prefer comedy or serious acting, like in Garage, which was written by an Ennis man, Mark O Halloran?
PAT: They are both very different. I enjoy serious acting and films like that but with comedy you get an immediate reaction and that’s great.
SARAH: What age where you and where did you do your first show?
PAT: I was 18 when I first got on stage and I think the first show with John was in Costello’s in Limerick.
SARAH: Were you always the joker at home and at school?
PAT: I probably was. I would have been a messer at school.
SARAH: We have some ‘budding comedians’ in our class; do you have any message for them?
PAT: It’s better to act the clown and get paid for it, rather than act the clown at school.
SARAH: What are your favourite jokes?
PAT: I love stupid jokes like
Knock, knock
Who’s there?
Interrupting cow.
Interrupting cow who?
Interrupting cow moo!
SARAH: And finally, what are your favourite Christmas memories?
PAT: The big dinner! There were 12 in our house so we seldom had a big dinner .And waking up on Christmas morning.
