Liam McCarthy comes to Knockanean!
There was great excitement in the school on Thursday, November 28th, when some of the victorious Clare panel arrived with the Liam McCarthy cup. Nicky O’Connell gave some excellent advice on the importance of good nutrition when playing sport. The children were decked out in their Clare colours and were delighted to get autographs from their heroes. View photos here.
Some of the children learned about the great tradition of cutting turf. They heard about the back breaking job of footing the turf in the years gone by and how it is placed upright to dry. They were shown two different ways of footing the turf! Read more and view photos here.
Author Róisín Meaney visits Knockanean
On Tuesday, November 26th, Author and storyteller, Róisín Meaney visited the Junior part of the school to share her love of reading and writing with the children. Read more about her visit and view some photos here.
Cumann na mBunscol Football Champions!
On Wednesday, November 20th, there was great scenes of celebration in Knockanean, as both the boys and girls football teams captured the Cumann na mBunscol Division 1 titles. Teams from all corners of the county participated in the finals held in Clarecastle. Knockanean enjoyed great support on the day! Bodhrán and Uileann Pipes Workshop
On Monday the 11th of November, Michael Vignoles came to the school to conduct a Bodhrán and Uilleann pipes workshop. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to hear about the history and origins of these instruments, to observe how the bodhrán is made and to play on their own bodhrán.
