Intel Grand Final
We went to the Helix in Dublin on Feb 3rd to the Intel Grand Final. We set up our project on stand 14. In total there was 24 schools from all over Ireland that made it to the final in the Helix. That made us in the top 1% of schools that entered the competition. We got a chance to see some of the projects and the standard was extremely high. The morning was spent at our stand as the judges came around and asked us questions about our project. We got to meet the President of DCU, the Minister for Education, Richard Bruton and the Vice president of Intel in Ireland. Intel provided us with a nice lunch. After lunch, there was a show before the results were announced. We received a certificate and a rosette. We had a really long day but it was really worthwhile.

Intel Regional Final:
It was amazing to see the Intel building and all the wonderful projects inside from the different schools. All the projects were great but only 5 were selected to go to the Helix in Dublin for the All Ireland final. We were one of them. It was very tense because we were called out last. We were delighted to get this far. When we heard Knockanean National School called out it was very surprising. We are looking forward to representing the school in the Helix in Dublin in early February.

We got into groups of up to 4 people and we did different kinds of science experiments. We all got to see the different types of projects in the other classes and on Wednesday the whole school came to see our projects. We had great fun doing the Intel mini scientist competition. On the 27th of October 4th 5th & 6th classes exhibited their science projects for the Intel judges. There were 7 judges. Our parents and families also came in to see our work. The judges had a really hard time in picking a winner and a runner up. The winning project was called “Bats” by Creavan, Ben & Cal and in second place was a project called “Sound” by Elin and Caitríona. The winning project will now go onto the regional final in Intel in Shannon on Dec 5th.
